The Mayor of Havant opened proceedings.
Former staff, parents and children turned up to support the event, which raised £816 in total.
There was a karate display, games, stalls, face painting, a tombola, and a big raffle.
Teresa Moore, former committee member who had three children go to the pre-school, donated a cake from her company Cake O’clock.
Superviser Andrea Perkins said: ‘With a group of dedicated staff and volunteer parents and carers we wanted to celebrate this monumental achievement by holding a fun morning to raise much-needed funds for our garden project.
‘The turnout was really good and there was nice family environment.
‘It was so nice to see so many familiar faces and to catch up.
‘We would like to thank all those who turned up to help and support the event and are looking forward to transforming our outdoor space.
‘I would also like to say thank you to Lorraine Saunders, our chairwoman, for helping organise such a big event.’
Children made a 40th anniversary banner decorated with hand and finger prints.
The pre-school, which opened in 1975, wants to use the money raised to revamp its outdoor area into a sensory garden where children can experience the life cycles of nature.
