A HANDSOME donation from the chief executive of Kurt Geiger has allowed a school to create a sociable dining area for its pupils.

Mayfield High School staff and pupils were thrilled with the £12,000 donation from the boss of the designer shoe empire Neil Clifford – a former pupil of the school in North End.

The money means the school can get working on converting two classrooms into a modern eating area for all year groups as well as teachers and staff to enjoy.

David Jeapes, Mayfield’s newly-appointed head, said: ‘Mr Clifford’s generosity and interest in Mayfield is fantastic.

‘We feel very fortunate to have such a prestigious ex-student who has achieved so much and now wants to give something back to his school and community.

‘We very much hope that this will be an ongoing relationship between Mr Clifford and Mayfield School.’

Mr Jeapes hopes the new dining area, which will have a shaft leading to the kitchen, will be ready in time for the start of the new academic year in September.

It will be open from 8am in the morning so pupils can use it throughout the day.
