THE former bishop of Rochester and Durham will give a free public lecture in Southsea about the current state and future prospects of the church on Monday.

Bishop Michael Turnbull CBE, whose most recent book is called ‘The state of the Church and the Church of the State’, is a guest of St John’s College’s politics society.

His visit follows last term’s talk given by TV star and former MP Ann Widdecombe, who also spoke on the subject of faith in politics.

The event starts at 7.30pm in the New Benildus Hall. Doors open at 7pm for refreshments.
