A GROUP of teenagers were put through their paces and got a taste of the forces during an innovative training programme.

Military Mentors in Fareham was awarded a grant of £1,500 from the Fareham Borough Council-run Fareham Park Purse initiative to run the programme.

The money funded a six-week course for 12 students of Henry Cort Community College, in Fareham.

The course came to a close last week, and saw students receive certificates at a prize-giving ceremony, before they completed their last assault course.

Cloé-Jaid Snowden, 16, received the award for top student.

Tony West, from Military Mentors, said: ‘It was a successful course, and we hope to run another next year. It gets kids into fitness, gives them a taste of military life and gives them an alternative to college.’
