YOUNGSTERS enjoyed learning about the outdoors at a meadow classroom.

Pupils from Alverstoke Pre-School, in Bury Road, Gosport, visited Rowner Meadow, at Grange Farm, in Little Woodham Lane, Gosport.

They learnt about outdoors safety, enjoyed sitting round a camp fire, probed a pond for signs of life and even held small animals in their hands.

The Mayor of Gosport, Councillor John Beavis attended with Mayoress Christine Beavis yesterday.

The civic pair were given a guided tour by John Reilly and Sue Parsons.

It comes after the school won £800 from a council-run YouDecide event to train Ms Parsons as a forest leader.

Once Ms Parsons has completed her training, the school will be a ‘forest school’.

Such schools aim to encourage independence and build self-esteem.
