WITH youth unemployment at an all-time high, Highbury College has launched a new initiative designed to get young people into employment.

The pre-apprenticeship programme is aimed at young people aged between 16 and 18 who are considering a career in retail or business administration.

The programme starts on Monday, March 7, and lasts for 15 weeks.

It is free and offers people the opportunity of gaining work experience.

Students will study for an NVQ in their chosen subject at Highbury College for four days a week, as well as completing functional key skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT.

They will also spend one day a week on a work placement, gaining the work experience which is essential in today’s job market.

Interviews will be held on March 1.
