Free mini tennis offered for Portsmouth children this half term

CHILDREN will be able to play mini tennis for free this half-term thanks to an agreement with Southsea Tennis Club.

The centre, in Clarence Esplanade, will open its doors to youngsters from Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm.

Free tennis is available to children aged from three to eight and they must be supervised by an adult. To book a one-hour slot call (023) 9282 4693.

Mini tennis is half-sized tennis, played with a shorter net over a half-sized court. It’s seen as an ideal introduction to tennis and played with racquets and foam or felt balls that bounce more slowly.

Councillor Linda Symes, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: ‘Mini tennis is the perfect introduction to tennis for children, and this is a great way to get them out, playing sport for free in half term.’

Racquets and balls can be collected at the café within the pavilion prior to the time slot. A £10 cash/credit card deposit is required for the equipment.
