THERE was excitement in the air as pupils at Park Community School gathered to collect their GCSE results.

The school, in Middle Park Way, Leigh Park, achieved a three per cent increase in the gold standard of five ore more A*-Cs including English and maths - up to 38 per cent.

Deputy headteacher Sue Walker said, despite this, she is frustrated with the maths results which have gone from 51 per cent C and above to 46 per cent C and above.

She added: ‘Overall it’s pleasing for some students but disappointing for others in terms of the messing about with grade boundaries.’

Mrs Walker explained that a pass last year would be several marks lower than a pass this year in maths.

But Danielle Bird, pictured, was delighted with her results - 10 A to Cs with As in English literature and history and an A* in dance.

She said: ‘I feel so happy. I had no idea I would do so well.’

The overall percentage of pupils who passed with A to Cs has not yet been calculated.
