ECSTATIC students picked up their GCSE results at St Edmunds’ Catholic School in Portsmouth today.

Sixty three per cent of students achieved the gold standard, which is five or more A* to C grades, with 100 per cent of pupils passing with qualifications A* to E.

Simon Graham, headteacher, was really pleased with the results saying students have done so well.

He said: ‘This school has performed well above average and I am really happy for what they have achieved.’

Councillor Neil Young was also at the results to cheer students on.

He said: ‘I think the youngsters have done extremely well at this school.

‘The support from teachers and parents has been great and that should also be recognised.’

Lois Harvery-Pescott, 16, of Southsea was speechless after achieving A*s across the board.

She said: ‘I am really pleased with my results and the hard work has paid off.

‘This school has been very supportive in offering additional lessons after school and at weekends.’
