A GROUP of schoolgirls have gathered their instruments and perfected their voices before embarking on a four-day trip to Salzburg.

The pupils from Portsmouth High School are on a music and history trip to the Austrian city.

Director of music George Tinsley said: ‘We have been waiting so long for this tour and it is finally here.

‘It is one thing to perform Mozart in Portsmouth but to perform it in the town Mozart was born in brings a dimension that you cannot get in any other way.’

The girls will visit Mozart’s birthplace as well as performing in three churches across the city. They will also take in a Sound of Music tour in the city.

Deputy head girl Sophie Stephens said: ‘We will be visiting the birthplace of Mozart and taking a Sound of Music tour around the city. It should be a wonderful experience.’
