STUDENTS have been getting hands-on experience in the construction industry.

It comes thanks to a partnership between Highbury College and the Solent Green Deal.

The Solent Green Deal is a scheme to help people in Hampshire make the best use of the government’s national Green Deal.

The scheme has supplied the college with a city house to enable students to have hands-on experience carrying out efficiency improvements to the home in Selbourne Terrace. The work includes solid wall insulation displays and rainwater harvesting.

The students, who are undertaking construction courses at Highbury College, are also completely redecorating the property, which will be used for exhibitions, courses and workshops on energy efficiency.

The aim of the Solent Green Deal is to remove the barriers to people making energy improvements to their homes.

The scheme will be officially launched in the summer.
