STUDENTS across the area are celebrating a top set of A-level results as they prepare to go on and study at some of the country’s top universities.
Students and staff at Oaklands Catholic School in Waterlooville are celebrating after the pass rate for A*-C rose to 82.6 per cent, up from 75.9 per cent last year.
Meanwhile, the A*-B grades went up to 60.4 per cent from 50.7 per cent in 2012.
Headteacher Matthew Quinn said: ‘The results achieved by Oaklands Sixth Form College Students were stunning - absolutely brilliant.
‘They are a credit to their hard work and that of our very talented and committed teachers.
‘The care and support students receive here is second to none, even if that means some tough love along the way. The school continues to justify its strong reputation at Advanced Level.
‘The high grade profile achieved by our students will mean that the majority should gain entry to the university of their choice or employment and training.’
At Bay House School in Gosport, 65 per cent of students achieved A*-B and 89 per cent got an A*-C.
Jill Eatherden, head of Sixth Form said: ‘We are thrilled with the outstanding results that our sixth formers have achieved this year.
‘Our 89 per cent A*-C pass rate, a 3 per cent rise from last year, means that students will have been able to gain places at some of the most prestigious universities in the country.
‘They have worked incredibly hard to secure these results – we are enormously proud of them, and their results pay testament to both their impressive work ethic and the tireless commitment and enthusiasm of their teachers.’
The University of Portsmouth says there will be a limited number of places on courses available through clearing.
