THE MP for Havant will join industry experts for a debate on the impact of engineering on UK society, organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

The event at the University of Portsmouth will cover how engineering affects all aspects of our lives and highlight what we must do to meet the many challenges facing society.

David Willetts served as Minister of State for Universities and Science between 2010 and 2014.

Students studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects will be among those in the audience.

Nick Schulkins, chairman of the Institution’s Wessex region, said: ‘I’m delighted that our committee has been able to attract Mr Willetts to this event, given his recent background as Minister of State for Universities and Science and role as MP for Havant.

‘I’m sure that members and their guests are going to have a fascinating evening questioning him on how he sees the future of engineering in the UK.’
