A SCHOOL that hit the headlines over its strict hair policy staged a ‘big hair/bad hair’ week in aid of charity.

Earlier this month, Park Community School came under fire for putting youngsters in detention for even the slightest changes to their hair colour, as reported in The News.

But after agreeing to relax the rules from September, to allow pupils to have subtle hair dyes and spikes of up to 5cm in height, headteacher Chris Anders decided to round off this summer term with a week of crazy hair-dos in return for a donation towards the Disasters Emergency Committee.

He said: ‘I feel we’ve had a really successful year and I wanted to end it with a fun celebration, and to put aside any previous conflicts.

‘Besides, I didn’t want anyone to be excluded from school in the last week of term – it would have been a horrible way to leave things.

‘The children had lots of fun with their hair, and we had some bright purples and blues, and all for a good cause.’

He added: ‘We want our students to achieve and we believe they should take pride in their appearance.’
