THE headteacher of a school is set to run a nearby college after its principal retired.

Ian Potter, head of Bay House School, in Gomer Lane, Gosport, will now also lead St Vincent College, in Mill Lane, also in Gosport.

It comes as principal Di Lloyd is set to retire from the college in April next year.

It was announced to parents this week and at a full meeting of Gosport Borough Council on Wednesday.

Councillor Bob Forder, a member of the St Vincent College corporation, said the ‘strategic alliance’ was not a merger of the two.

Lucy Docherty is chairwoman of the governing body at St Vincent College, and Andy Ferriss is chairman of governors at Bay House School and Sixth Form.

In a joint statement they said the move was a ‘historic partnership.’

It said: ‘Building on the respective strengths of the two mainstays of post-16 education in the town, this is a long-term project to expand provision and choice for the learners of Gosport and further afield.

‘As a consequence of this decision the St Vincent Corporation will not recruit a new principal to replace Di Lloyd but will instead establish a new joint executive team.’
