MEMORIES of an historic area of Portsmouth are needed to help a primary school photography project.

Youngsters at St John’s Catholic Primary in Landport are keen to interview people who worked at HMS Vernon in World War Two as part of the Gunwharf 10th anniversary celebrations. After they do the interviews, the pupils will write stories set at the time and research archive photos before taking their own photos with shoppers – not sailors – in the background.

Paul Gonella, of Compulsive Productions, which is running the project, said: ‘The children are learning about World War Two but this will give it a strong local context. Important work was done at HMS Vernon like diffusing torpedoes and mines.’ To help call Paul on 023 9248 1366 or email
