A DRIVE to keep students fit and healthy at a college has been nationally recognised.

Havant College has been awarded the status of Healthy Further Education College.

In February the college applied for the award, which was an initiative run by the Department for Health, encouraging health and wellbeing in further education, for both students and staff.

Trish Thorn, student guidance and welfare officer, said: ‘The college has always been proactive in organising annual events and addressing key campaigns such as World Aids Day, anti-bullying, no smoking and was the first local college to introduce its own on-site sexual health clinic delivered by Sexsense and NHS staff.

‘We are delighted to receive recognition of our efforts.’

Students and staff participated in a health survey to get the award.

Havant College is working with other colleges to promote a healthy lifestyle for young people.
