A SCHOOL has been criticised for changing a training day to when teachers are taking strike action.

Members of the NUT and the NASUWT at Brune Park Community School in Gosport are due to walk out tomorrow and Wednesday for a second time in a dispute over pay.

The school was due to have an inset day on Friday, but it has now been changed to tomorrow

Graham West, 50, from Elson, whose daughter Eleanor, 15, goes to the school, said: ‘I think it’s disgusting. These inset days are supposed to be for training. That’s just ridiculous.

‘A lot of people might have been planning to go on holiday on that Friday.’

Brune Park headteacher Richard Kelly said: ‘The change of date of the inset day is not to accommodate strike action but to ensure that as much learning can take place, with students having contact with their normal teachers and therefore having lessons on the Friday accommodates this.

‘The students will of course not now be in on the Tuesday. However, for the parents this would be the same impact as there would have been owing to the strike action.’

Parents who have booked holidays must call the school.
