A TEACHER has retired after 41 years at a school.

Sarah Spender has left Portsmouth High School after originally joining in 1972.

During this time, she has taught PHSE, games, RE and was head of careers.

She visited the school for the last time to celebrate the girls’ A-level results – 89 per cent of the grades were A*-B.

She said: ‘I’m now looking to do things with my family and possibly do some volunteering work with animals or the countryside.

‘I am over the moon about the A-level results. It’s the best leaving present I could ever have hoped for.’

Headteacher Jane Prescott, added: ‘We shall miss Sarah enormously. She has been an inspiration to literally hundreds of girls over the years, many of whom still keep in touch with her.’
