YOUNG musicians from across West Sussex will come together to perform great British tunes for the University of Chichester’s annual gala concert this Saturday.
Members of the Chichester Music Centre’s brass and percussion ensembles will join the university’s symphony orchestra and the county youth choir is set to join forces with the university’s Otter consort for the event at Chichester Cathedral.
The flavour of the evening will be distinctly British to mark the Jubilee celebrations, with music by Elgar, Walton and Hubert Parry.
Simon Growcott, orchestral manager, said: ‘It is always a great occasion for us when we play in Chichester Cathedral, and we want to give that chance to others, inspiring them to continue playing music as they continue in their education, maybe even as music students at the university.’
Tickets to the 7.30pm concert costing £10 can be bought from the cathedral box office on (01243) 813595 or from chichestertickets.co.uk. University members can get in for free with a staff or student card.
