A CHILDREN’S theatre company led by a Portsmouth resident has come home – to one of the city’s best loved venues.
Kipper Tie Theatre is celebrating being made an associate company at the New Theatre Royal, which will be its official home for the next two years.
The company’s artistic director Bernie Byrnes, who is from Portsmouth, is a playwright who recently joined the BBC CBeebies design team and was also commissioned to write a one-man play about Jimmy Savile for this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
She will return to the city on March 24 for the annual Lost Hour festival to run a script-writing workshop of Dickens’ works at the New Theatre Royal.
Caroline Sharman, the theatre director, said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled with Kipper Tie Theatre’s success, we are a theatre of the community and are always excited about helping to develop local talent.
‘The New Theatre Royal is growing into a fantastic local hub for creatives in Portsmouth and Kipper Tie always put on a fantastic show.’
