CHILDREN had a chance to dress up as the Lord Mayor as part of a new project to introduce young Members of Parliament at their school.

Pupils at Manor Infant School in Fratton met the Lord Mayor, councillor Lynne Stagg and visited her offices at Portsmouth Guildhall.

Ashley Howard, headteacher at Manor Infants, said: ‘The mayor was interested to find out more about the school. She linked it to the Young MPs which is our new school council.

‘I am trying to raise the pupils’ voices in the school. It’s a fantastic opportunity. It’s real-life experience of seeing the role that they do within the school.’

Three pupils each from Year 1 and Year 2 will be elected as Young MPs following an application and interview process.

They will then have their first meeting in the mayor’s parlour.
