THE MP for the Meon Valley has welcomed the Department of Education’s decision to establish a new academy primary school in Waterlooville.

The department also agreed in principle that the 420-place school in the West of Waterlooville development will be sponsored by the University of Chichester because it scored the highest in assessments by Hampshire County Council.

‘There is a substantial need for primary school places, not just in the Waterlooville area but across Hampshire, so this decision is not only welcome but very much needed,’ said George Hollingbery.

‘Waterlooville is growing due to this development and for many years I have lobbied for adequate infrastructure be put in place to ensure West of Waterlooville works for the community, so this is a great step forward in that respect too.

‘I’m sure that, under the guidance of the University of Chichester, this is going to be a high-quality school that the community will grow to love.’

The new school should open in September 2014.
