THE MP for Meon Valley spent a day with students from a local school discussing politics.

George Hollingbery took part in an annual citizenship activity for Year 9 and 10 students at Horndean Technology College.

After a discussion, he explained what happens in politics and explained terminology that young people may have heard on the news but not understood before, including the passing of bills.

After the talk, the students were divided up into small groups and each given a mock bill of an issue that may be affecting them.

The session triggered some heated debates that continued outside the classroom.

Mr Hollingbery said it was a worthwhile day.

‘It was enormous fun being with the students,’ he said.

‘They discussed touchy subjects and came to interesting conclusions.

‘I hoped they enjoyed the session.’
