A SCHOOL in Gosport is celebrating after scooping an award at a national awards ceremony in recognition of its commitment to sport.

Bridgemary Community Sports College, in Wych Lane, received the Youth Sport Trust’s London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games award for its work using Olympic and Paralympic values to have an impact across all areas of school life.

They have done this through the Get Set network – the official London 2012 education programme which offers a range of resources linked to the Games including games, fact sheets, films and literature.

Jo Radford, assistant vice principal and director of specialism, said: ‘We are thrilled to have been given this award and will continue using London 2012 to inspire every young person to achieve in life – whatever their dream or aspiration.’

Alex Danson, Great Britain women’s hockey star, who presented the school with the plaque, said: ‘Students at Bridgemary are examples of how London 2012 is helping to spark young people’s imagination and inspiring them to get involved.’
