BRIGHT young sparks are invited to enter a national competition for primary schools to find the country’s best mathematicians.

The National Young Mathematicians’ Award, sponsored by Explore Learning maths tutors, is urging schools to enter a team of two boys and two girls in time for the competition’s first round on Tuesday.

Youngsters will be presented with a problem and will be judged on their ability to solve.

Heather Garrick, from Explore Learning, said: ‘Our maths course has been specially designed to stretch the most gifted mathematicians.’

Competition winners will go through to a regional semi-final. The most talented will battle it out for a place in the grand final at Cambridge University on December 7.
