YOUNGSTERS at Portsmouth High Junior School scaled the Spinnaker Tower during a poetry workshop.

The group of nine and 10-year-olds put their creative writing skills to the test last week to create poetry inspired by the stunning views of the city from the top of the tower.

Junior school head Pippa Harris-Burland, who led the session, said: ‘This workshop was part of our varied and comprehensive literacy programme.

‘We aimed to inspire the girls’ imaginations using the visual stimulus of the city and the results were fantastic.

‘We’re now keen to work with other local schools to bring together a collection of poetry about our city.

‘Our thanks goes to the team at Spinnaker Tower for enabling us to hold our workshop there.’
