TWO nursery workers used pedal power to raise hundreds of pounds for new toys and equipment.

Mike Sadler, 24, and Melanie Randall, 25, cycled 52 miles from Portsmouth to Bournemouth to pay for sun sails to protect youngsters in the garden.

They set off from The Haven Nursery in Lake Road, Landport, and arrived at their destination almost nine hours later. Mike said: ‘We relied on adrenaline to push us through. We averaged about eight to 10 miles an hour on the flat areas but it was the hills coming up to Southampton and the New Forest which we really struggled with. We were so chuffed when we completed it.’

So far the pair have been pledged around £300 in sponsorship, but they are appealing to people to help them reach £500. Call (023) 9289 0957.
