HUNDREDS of schoolchildren are gearing up to showcase their musical talent for the Portsmouth heat of a national performing arts competition.

The Rock Challenge asks teams to produce an eight-minute themed dance routine, which is performed on stage in front of live audiences and a team of qualified judges.

Teams are marked and the winners move on to perform against others at regional finals.

Rock Challenge UK assistant manager Stuart McGregor said: ‘We have been incredibly grateful to all of our sponsors, who have invested in the fantastic ethos of the event. Without them this event would not go ahead.

‘This year at the Rock Challenge, we have been absolutely blown away by the quality of the performances and support of the schools and performers.

‘We can’t wait for the start of the shows in Portsmouth.’

The challenge is due to kick off at the Portsmouth Guildhall from Monday.
