TWO Portsmouth schools have won thousands of pounds from the Big Lottery Fund for projects that will boost resources for young people.

Portsdown Primary and The Harbour special school will receive £9,586 and £3,449 respectively from the Awards for All programme.

They are among 71 schools and organisations across the south east who are sharing a £574,765 pot of funding.

Portsdown Primary will use the funds to provide a programme for children and parents for health information sessions and after-school physical activities.

The activities will also offer school-leavers not in education, employment or training the chance to get involved and gain Sports Leaders UK qualifications.

And The Harbour School will use the money to buy adventure activity equipment to engage young people in confidence-boosting activities.

The Awards for All programme offers grants up to £10,000 to projects that will benefit local communities.
