STAFF and pupils at a local school are celebrating after Ofsted graded their provision as outstanding.

The Portsmouth Grammar School was inspected in February and the Early Years provision received the top rating.

They were rated outstanding across the board, in all areas of the inspection.

Peter Hopkinson, head of the Portsmouth Grammar Junior School, said: ‘Although we always knew that our Nursery and Reception year were of an exceptionally high standard, to be told by the ISI that we were graded as outstanding was a very proud moment for all involved.

‘It was even more gratifying to hear that we were graded outstanding in every aspect of our provision and this is vindication of the tremendous team effort that goes into providing our youngest children with the very best start to their education.’

The ISI is directed by Ofsted to inspect the Early Years provision in all independent schools.

‘Our success as a school is underpinned by the work that goes on in our Nursery and Reception year,’ added Mr Hopkison.

‘This is where children first engage with learning and develop a love and passion for it, that stays with them for life.

‘This is achieved in a caring, nurturing setting, where boys and girls learn together, taught and supported by a team of highly dedicated nursery nurses, teaching assistants and teachers.’
