A SCHOOLBOY representative of students across the city says he has encountered ‘extreme amounts of negativity’ from pupils against academies.

Hayden Taylor, 14, who chairs the Council of Portsmouth Schools (COPS) and will be speaking out at an anti-academies debate at Portsmouth’s Central Library on May 19, said: ‘Pupils’ main worries were that their links with other schools would go into demise if they became competitive with each other because of their sponsors.

‘We highly rate the city council’s education department and believe they should not be discredited by a school or sponsoring company.’

Hayden’s speech follows Miltoncross’s announcement they are seeking to become an academy and the news that heads city-wide are considering academy status.
