STUDENTS were given a taste of a health care course.
Year nine pupils from seven secondary schools gathered at 1000 Lakeside, in North Harbour, for a day of workshops based on the government-led society, health and development diploma.
They were taught life-saving resuscitation procedures and road safety at the event on Tuesday.
Organiser Jacquie Jones, of the Portsmouth and South East Hampshire Education Business Partnership, said: ‘We know that practical demonstrations from professionals and physical involvement in activities are extremely inspiring for a lot of young people.
‘By showing the students what jobs they can go on to do with the diploma, we are putting the qualification into context and getting them to think about their long-term future.’
The diploma was introduced by the government in 2008 and is taught in local colleges.
