PUPILS put their design and build skills to the test in the final of the BAE Systems Schools Engineering Challenge in Portsmouth.

The challenge was co-ordinated by BAE Systems Maritime which sent apprentices and graduates into schools to teach the principles of engineering and naval architecture. They worked with the pupils to design their own working ship models.

The competing schools were Admiral Lord Nelson School, Oaklands Catholic, Portsmouth Grammar, City Girls, St Edmunds Catholic and St Johns College, as well as the winners Nower Hill High School from London.
