A SCHEME that helps children across Portsmouth, Hampshire and West Sussex with their reading is appealing for a volunteer.

Read for Life Community Interest Company, based in Ecton Lane, Portsmouth, is seeking someone to attend Compton and Up Marden CoE Primary in West Sussex to support three children.

The commitment would be one-and-a-half hours twice a week during term time to give these youngsters one-to-one support.

Training, resources and travel expenses will be provided for free, but references and an enhanced criminal records bureau disclosure are needed.

Mary Davis, joint volunteer co-ordinator, said: ‘In our first year of operation, Read for Life has helped 80 children improve their reading skills and develop in confidence.’
