Millions of pets face an Unhappy Blue Year, says PDSA

Forget Blue Monday millions of pets face a Blue Year unless their owners take steps to end their stress, obesity and loneliness, according to leading pet wellbeing charity PDSA.

The warning comes on Monday 15 January hallmarked as Blue Monday where short, dark days, empty pockets and dwindling New Years resolutions all add up to create the most melancholic day of the year. But PDSA is urging pet owners to spare a thought for the pets who face another year of loneliness and boredom going far beyond the joyless January blues.

PARENTS are being urged to apply for a place in reception at schools across Hampshire.

Children who turn four between September 1, 2014 and August 31, 2015 are due to start school next September.

The closing date for applications for a reception school place is Thursday, January 15. Parents are also required to apply for a junior school place by this date.

Peter Edgar, executive member for education at Hampshire County Council said: ‘Starting school is a huge milestone for children and their parents.

‘I urge Hampshire parents to ensure they have completed, and submitted their application by the deadline to ensure their child is able to start school next September.

‘Missing the deadline could mean missing out on a place at your local school.’

Parents can easily apply for a place at their preferred school via or call 0845 603 5623.

The council had nearly 15,000 applications in 2014 with almost 90 per cent of parents granted their preferred school. For the parents losing out to their preferred school, 97 per cent of applicants were offered a place at an alternative preferred school.
