Sailing clubs world record attempt

THE REGION'S sailing clubs have been involved in an attempt to break the record for the world's largest sailing race.

The Andrew Simpson Watersports Centre in Portsmouth along with Hayling Island, Locks and Tudor Sailing Clubs have all been involved in the Bart's Bash record breaking attempt.

It is the fifth year the event has taken place after setting the record in 2014.

Event organiser, Tim Anderton, said: '˜We set the record in 2014 when we had 9484 boats in 237 locations. This year we had 650 venues registered for the event in 86 countries.'

Bart's Bash was established in 2013 to remember Andrew '˜Bart' Simpson '“ an Olympic Champion who tragically died in 2013.

The event was organised by the Andrew Simpson Foundation who aim to honour his legacy through helping to increase the involvement of young people in sailing.

Tim is hopeful that this year's event will have set a new world  record.
