STUDENTS from a school in Hampshire have been highlighting the importance of staying safe while walking to and from school.

Locks Heath Infant School has taken part in the Your Time To Shine campaign, set up by Hampshire County Council to raise awareness of how to be safe during the school commute.

The school says that with the clocks being set back, schoolchildren will be walking in the dark more, and so have been shown the importance of using reflective clothing and gadgets in a fun way – to make them more visible to drivers during the evening.

In a day away from their normal school routine, the pupils started out with an assembly on road safety and how to cross roads safely.

The local lollipop man also came into the school and talked to the children about how they can keep safe when crossing the roads.

Students also sold gadgets at the end of the school day to raise money for another scooter pod for the children to store their scooters at the school.
