A schoolgirl has qualified for a major gymnastics championship after her team wowed judges with their synchronised gymnastic floor work.

Emma Larner, a student at The Petersfield School, and her team members are through to the British Team Gym Finals in Gloucester on May 5.

The 12-year-old started her gymnastic career at the age of eight when she attended the Concorde Gymnastics Club at Horndean Technology College.

She joined the Portsmouth School of Gymnastics a year and a half ago – where she met her team mates who are all aged 11 to 14.

Emma, who will be competing against other gymnasts aged up to 16, said: ‘I am really looking forward to it – if we win we will go through to the European Championships.’
