DISRUPTION is expected across schools today as teachers go on strike.

Members of the National Union of Teachers are staging a national walk-out in an ongoing dispute about pay, conditions and pensions.

Teachers from across the area will gather at The Fountain, in Commercial Road, Portsmouth, to stage a protest from midday today.

Some schools have announced they will be closing or partially closed.

But the vast majority of schools will not be able to make a decision until this morning as teachers do not have to advise their head of their intention to strike.

Parents and guardians have been asked to check with their schools this morning about whether the school will be open.
