THE headteacher of a school with continued improved exam results has been praised by the minister for schools.

Nick Gibbs, the Minister of State for Schools, has written to Derek Trimmer, head of Mayfield School in Mayfield Road, Portsmouth.

It joins around 100 schools across the country receiving the letter after Key Stage 4 exam results continued to get better.

Mr Gibbs’ letter said: ‘It gives me great pleasure to congratulate you on the excellent achievement of your pupils at Key Stage 4 as published in the 2010 Key Stage 4 performance tables.

‘Your results show that you are among the 100 top-performing schools based on sustained improvement in each year from 2007 to 2010.

‘I would like to congratulate your staff, governors and pupils for their hard work and success, and to thank you for your leadership in continuing the drive towards the highest standards of educational achievement.’
