SCHOOLGIRLS got their goggles on for a week of chemical wizardry to mark National Science and Engineering Week.

The youngsters at Portsmouth High School took part in scientific activities including a colour master class, magnifying unusual objects and a science quiz.

Celebrations began on March 11 with a collision of art and science – as pupils enjoyed a hands-on session on the science of colour, where they looked at the colour spectrum, pigments in plants and how different colours absorb wavelengths of light.

Anthea Hunter, head of science, said: ‘Above all, we want to inspire our girls to consider science and engineering careers and to show how science relates to everyone’s lives.’
