THIS sporty creation has landed a school in the final of a national scarecrow competition.

Year Five pupils from St Alban’s Primary School, in West Leigh, have reached the final of the Hampton Court Flower Show in London.

Ten youngsters have spent the last 12 weeks making the scarecrow at an after-school club, led by teacher Julie Newman.

They sent in a picture and beat hundreds of other schools to make the final.

The lucky schoolchildren got to personally deliver the scarecrow to Hampton Court and rub shoulders with celebrities Monty Don and Nick Knowles.

The scarecrow is called Trinity and represents a triathlete who has just completed the swim stage of her race.

It was painstakingly put together using wood, papier mache, and yacht paint.

Teacher Claire Inskip said: ‘We are very proud. It’s all the children’s own work.’

Visitors to the show will vote for a final winner.
