PARENTS of children due to start or change schools in Portsmouth next year are being reminded to get their applications in.

For children in Year 6, the application process for secondary school has already started and runs until Friday, October 31.

Many secondary schools and academies offer open days and evenings so parents and prospective pupils can see the school and speak to teachers.

For children currently in Year 2 and moving up to junior school next year, applications run from Monday, November 3, until Thursday, January 15.

And for children who were born between September 1, 2010 and August 31, 2011, they will be due to start school next year. If your child is currently in Year 2 at an infant school, you will need to apply for their junior school place.

Applications for infant and primary school places open on Monday, November 3, and you have until Thursday, January 15 to apply.

Apply online at portsmouth.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

Alternatively call (023) 9268 8008 to request a form.

Parents are reminded that late applications will affect their chances of their child getting a place at their preferred school.
