COME rain or shine, children explore the outdoors at a pre-school that has just been awarded the best possible Ofsted grade.

Youngsters at the ‘outstanding’ Padnell Pre-school in Cowplain, in the grounds of Padnell Infants, enjoy nature on a daily basis.

Inspectors applauded staff for recognising ‘the uniqueness of each child’ and meeting their needs, and ticked the outstanding box for every category, including leadership and pupil outcomes.

Joint-manger Karen Turner said she was thrilled with the report and admitted the pre-school was lucky to have access to the infant school’s green, known as Joey’s Field, which boasts a woodland area, nature trail, pond, outdoor classroom and other exciting features.

She said: ‘We are lucky to have fantastic outdoor facilities and we ensure the children are out there every day, no matter what the weather is like.

‘There is no substitute for it. It stimulates learning. We have a lot of happy children here.’
