A STUDENT society is putting on its fifth annual talent competition and fashion show in aid of charity.

The University of Portsmouth’s Hindu Society will be holding its Jalwa V on March 6 at the Kings Theatre in Southsea.

The show has raised more than £20,000 since it began, and this year it will be raising funds for The British Heart Foundation and the Manav Sadhna Charity (India).

The society is so good at raising money it has been nominated by the university as its fundraiser of the year.

Acts at the show have come from other university societies, including break-dancing, show choir, belly dancing, bhangra, and comedy.

The society’s vice-president, Rahul Puri, said: ‘It provides a brilliant platform for those with a talent to an audience of greater than 800.’

The society has previously teamed up with high street fashion retailers to put on the fashion show part of the event.

But it is looking for local businesses to help with sponsorship, and has already secured the support of Enterprise Rent-a-car.
