PUPILS have been collecting food and hygiene products to send to Syrian refugees.

Youngster from Portsmouth Grammar School have been collecting donations and bringing in food.

The collection was organised by parent Helen Wilson, who is planning to deliver the donations to Calais. Pupils also left heartfelt notes in the boxes.

Ben Charles, deputy headteacher said: ‘It’s been a very positive response.

‘We have been able to show pupils some videos about the crisis so they have a better understanding of what it’s all about.’

Pupil Amy Stokely, 15, said: ‘These people are so lonely. It’s so barbaric what they’ve been through. We should try and help because we are in a position where we can.’
