COLOURFUL children’s character Elmer the elephant will be celebrated with a week of activities at a nursery.

Kiddi Caru’s day nursery, in Whiteley, is holding a week of activities themed around the original Elmer book, which was published in 1968.

Throughout the week the children will be making puppets and putting on a show, having a dress up day and making Elmer masks and biscuits.

Manager Lisa Roper said: ‘Elmer is one of those characters that children have loved for generations. He has a wonderful personality and the stories capture their imaginations. The theme of diversity is a powerful one. This is an incredibly positive message for children of all ages.’
