HORNDEAN Technology College students have won a cookery competition with a menu fit for a future king and queen.

The year 10 pupils impressed judges of the Celebrity Chef Challenge 2011 in a live cook-off at Gunwharf Quays.

They were up against pupils from schools from across the area in the competition organised by the Education Business Partnership for Portsmouth and South East Hampshire.

The challenge was for pupils to create a wedding breakfast to celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Classmates Celeste Cohen, Katie Ward, Liam Tyrell and Ryan Grace claimed the trophy with duck breast and pan-fried potatoes and courgettes followed by decadent strawberry cheesecake.

Ryan said: ‘I want to be a chef when I leave school so this has given my confidence a real boost.’

The heats were judged by chefs Susie Carter, head chef of the Langstone Hotel Duncan Wilson and Martin Tarbuck from Highbury College.
