THE Air ambulance has been called out after an elderly lady was hit by a car in Cowplain.

Police and paramedics went to London Road, near The Spotted Cow pub, shortly before 11am after an 82-year-old pedestrian was hit by a Fiat Punto car.

Traffic queues have built up as part of the road has had to be closed while emergency services deal with the accident.

It is understood the Fiat had stopped to let the lady cross the road, but the vehicle was shunted from behind by a BMW car.

The Fiat then moved forward and struck the lady.

She is believed to have sustained injuries to her legs.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: ‘The lady was about to step out into the road.

‘The first car stopped to let her across. A second car, a BMW, was behind and did not see. It did not stop and it hit the Fiat, which has gone forward and hith the lady.

‘It doesn’t appear to be a high-speed incident. No-one has been arrested.’
